AD693AD Loop-Powered 4–20 mA Sensor Transmitter
30mV/60mV Input Span x 0.5% Accuracy — Signal Conditioning for Industrial Process Control
AD693AD Product Overview
The AD693AD is a monolithic signal conditioning circuit from Analog Devices, designed for the electronic measurement of low-level transducer inputs to control a standard 4–20 mA two-wire current loop with galvanic isolation inherent to loop-powered operation. The AD variant features a 20-pin ceramic side-brazed DIP package, includes an on-chip voltage reference and auxiliary amplifier for transducer excitation, and offers precalibrated input and output spans via simple pin strapping .
Rated for 30 mV or 60 mV nominal input spans (preset), with additional spans from 1 mV to 100 mV achievable using external resistors, it outputs a 4–20 mA current loop signal with 0.5% total unadjusted error at +25°C and 0.75% over the industrial temperature range. Nonlinearity is 0.05%. Response time is suitable for DC and low-frequency applications, and bandwidth is typically below 1 kHz. Supply voltage range is +12 V to +36 V. Mass is approximately 1 gram and operating temperature is −40°C to +85°C .

AD693AD Key Advantages
The AD693AD employs an instrumentation amplifier front end with active laser-trimmed thin-film resistors, delivering 0.5% total unadjusted error and 0.05% nonlinearity while providing a complete monolithic voltage-to-current loop signal conditioning solution . The 30 mV and 60 mV preset input spans provide flexibility, while the on-chip 6.2 V reference and auxiliary amplifier enable direct transducer excitation with up to 3.5 mA available in loop-powered mode . The programmable input spans from 1 mV to 100 mV accommodate a wide variety of sensors, while the loop-powered 4–20 mA output simplifies two-wire installation and reduces wiring complexity . The 20-pin ceramic DIP enables reliable through-hole mounting, and the optional external pass transistor feature allows power dissipation to be off-loaded, extending temperature range and minimizing self-heating errors .
AD693AD Typical Applications
Process transmitters for pressure, temperature, and flow sensors requiring 4–20 mA loop output
Bridge sensor signal conditioning for strain gauges and pressure transducers
RTD temperature transmitters with six precalibrated temperature ranges via pin strapping
Thermocouple measurement with cold junction compensation using external components
Factory automation and PLC input conditioning modules
System monitoring and distributed control system interfaces
Why Choose the AD693AD?
The AD693AD combines preset 30 mV/60 mV input spans, 0.5% accuracy, and loop-powered 4–20 mA output in a compact 20-pin ceramic DIP package. Manufactured by Analog Devices, it delivers stable, accurate, and safe signal conditioning for industrial applications . The laser-trimmed accuracy and precalibrated spans offer the distinct advantage of reducing external components and calibration effort, while the integrated voltage reference and auxiliary amplifier provide a complete solution for interfacing RTDs, bridges, and thermocouples to standard current loops .
