The HTB50-P/SP5 is a high-performance Hall-effect open-loop current sensor from LEM, a world-renowned manufacturer of electrical transducers. Founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 1972, LEM has been focusing on Hall-effect based current sensing and is a global leader in the field.
The HTB50-P/SP5 is designed for electronic measurement of DC, AC, pulsed, and mixed currents, providing complete electrical isolation between the primary (high power) and secondary (electronic) circuits. It belongs to LEM’s HTB series, which includes seven models with the same compact design. The sensor occupies only 4.3 cm² of PCB area and features a 16 mm diameter aperture.

Using Hall-effect open-loop principle, the output is a voltage signal that faithfully follows the primary current waveform. Accuracy and linearity are both better than ±1%, ensuring true and precise measurement.
The sensor provides 2500V isolation between primary and secondary circuits, fully separating high-power and low-power sections for safe system operation.
With a response time of less than 3 μs and a bandwidth from DC to 50 kHz, the HTB50-P/SP5 accurately captures fast-changing current signals, meeting the needs of high-performance applications.
The sensor has a small footprint of only about 4.3 cm² on a PCB and a height of 34 mm, ideal for space-constrained embedded designs.
Consuming less than 15 mA, it is well suited for battery-powered or low-power systems.
Stable operation from -25℃ to +85℃ ensures reliable performance in demanding industrial conditions.
The insulated plastic case is UL 94-V0 rated, meeting stringent safety standards.
The HTB50-P/SP5 is widely used in industrial, energy, and automation applications, including:
AC variable speed drives and servo motor drives – accurately monitor motor current for precise control
Static converters for DC motor drives – ensure stable operation of the converter
Switched mode power supplies (SMPS) – real-time current monitoring for reliable output
Uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) – detect input/output current to maintain power continuity
Battery powered equipment – low power consumption makes it ideal for portable devices
Power supplies for welding equipment – precisely measure welding current for quality control
Variable speed drives for home appliances and air conditioners – widely used in consumer electronics
