In today’s fast-moving world of power electronics, from high-performance industrial drives to fast-evolving EV charging infrastructure, one small but critical component silently ensures the safety and efficiency of every EV charge and motor load – the current sensor. Are precision drift, tricky installation, or poor noise immunity causing headaches for your project?
If your system needs a high-precision current monitoring solution, if you are looking for a reliable measurement method for medium-to-high currents above 500A, and if you want a compact, PCB-friendly design with high integration – then the HTFS800-P/SP2 Hall-effect current sensor from LEM, a world-renowned sensor manufacturer, is your ideal choice. With decades of expertise, every LEM component stands for ultimate accuracy and durability.
Based on the open-loop Hall principle and LEM’s proprietary ASIC, the HTFS800-P/SP2 delivers an ultrafast response time of just 3.5 µs. Whether a sudden load surge in a variable frequency drive or an instantaneous charge/discharge in an energy storage system, the sensor captures current changes at the very first moment and provides real-time feedback to the control system.
Rated for 800A and capable of measuring up to ±1200A (DC, AC, or pulsed waveforms) without external transducers. Accuracy is ±1%, linearity ±0.5%, ensuring signal consistency across the entire measuring range – no more “unreliable readings”.
Six models cover the full range from 200A to 800A, all with the same package dimensions. A 22-mm diameter hole is provided for the primary conductor, which can pass directly without any destructive modification. The HTFS800-P/SP2 version features four 1-mm diameter soldering pins for mechanical fixing plus secondary signal pins, allowing reliable wave or manual soldering onto a PCB. Compared to the screw-fixing P version, the P/SP2 soldered fixing is more robust and compact – ideal for applications subject to mechanical vibration.
The Hall principle inherently provides galvanic isolation, with a test voltage of 2.5 kV RMS / 50 Hz / 1 min. The high-current primary circuit is completely separated from the low-power secondary circuit, delivering a low-noise voltage output even in strongly interfering environments such as inverters or motor drives, while protecting downstream control circuits.
Powered by a single 5 V supply, consumption is as low as ≈25 mA. Whether a portable device or a centralised control cabinet, the power requirement is easy to satisfy. Operating temperature ranges from -40 ℃ to +105 ℃, and the housing material meets UL94 V-0 flame rating. From freezing outdoor distribution equipment in northern winters to the sustained high temperatures inside sealed electrical cabinets in southern summers, the sensor delivers stable, long-term performance.
Width only 40 mm and weight just 60 g. The integrated compact design allows multiple current monitoring nodes to be placed on a highly populated board, meeting the modern trend of miniaturisation and high integration.

In charging piles and on-board chargers, the HTFS800-P/SP2 is used to precisely measure the realtime current through the charger, enabling the system to monitor the charging process, ensure safety, and significantly optimise power efficiency.
With its 800A rating, the sensor can be integrated into large UPS systems for data centres/telecom base stations and industrial switch-mode power supplies, monitoring input/output power balance and overload conditions.
Widely used in AC variable-frequency and servo drives, and in static converters for DC motor drives. It protects motors and power transistors from overcurrent stress, providing reliable early warning for expensive automated production lines.
For battery-powered vehicles (golf carts, electric wheelchairs, unmanned logistic forklifts), the combination of low voltage, high current, and low power consumption demands a special current monitoring solution. The HTFS800-P/SP2’s low power, small size, and wide range make it the first choice.
In welding equipment and other specialised industrial power supplies where high current surges are common, sensor stability is critical. The HTFS800-P/SP2 operates reliably in harsh electrical environments with excellent external interference immunity, safeguarding the primary circuit.
